Fall Piney Lake Engagement in Vail | Caroline & Brendan

If you’ve never seen the Gore Range from Piney Lake, it should be on your Colorado bucket list. For that reason alone, I was excited when Caroline and Brendan asked me to shoot their fall Piney Lake engagement in Vail. Located about 40 minutes North of the town of Vail up a logging road, it may be a bumpy ride but the view alone is worth the adventure. I haven’t been back since I photographed this wedding at the ranch and fall is the perfect time to visit.

Caroline and Brendan are getting married out of state and since they love the mountains and water, we knew this would be an ideal location for their engagement photos. We shared a beer on the deck before venturing up the trail past the lake. It was a picture perfect, Colorado bluebird day and with the aspen trees changing color you couldn’t ask for much more.

We had a great time shooting everywhere from the aspen grove to the edge of the lake where it flows into Piney River. Thankfully we managed to avoid the moose herd that calls the area home. Just before the sun disappeared, we made a few photos on the boat dock as the still lake provided a gorgeous reflection. I hope you enjoy the photos from their fall Piney River Ranch engagement in Vail. I plan to be back sooner rather than later.

Frank and Heidi live in Minnesota’s Twin Cities and wanted a change of scenery for their special day and decided to have a Breckenridge Boreas Pass wedding with all their family and friends. Can you blame them? As a Colorado native I’m completely aware of how beautiful the state is but I hadn’t experienced the top of Boreas Pass until I Trent asked me to help document their wedding day. After the ceremony downtown we ventured up the dirt road on Boreas Pass despite the cold, windy conditions in search of the perfect Colorado backdrop. Heidi’s face lit up when we asked if she would be willing to climb on top of the deserted box car at the top of the mountain. Shortly after they…

Summertime in the high country rarely disappoints but with all of the snow we got this year everything is especially green and lush. We decided to do their mountain lake engagement near Vail up at Piney Lake. It’s one of the tougher Colorado Engagement Locations to get to but once you make the bumpy 45 minute ride up the dirt road from Vail you’re rewarded with spectacular views of the Gore Range. I’ve enjoyed coming back ever since I photographed a wedding at Piney River Ranch a couple years ago. I was connected with Laura and Ryan through a talented photojournalist colleague and I’m so glad that I was. They have ton of fun together and enjoyed the process. I got a big kick out…
