I met up with Devan and Joshua at Avanti to start their downtown Denver engagement session but before we did anything we had a drink because, why not? The view is obviously amazing but there is a great vibe going on and food is mouth watering. At Devan’s suggestion we had an arepa from Quiero Arepas that potentially changed my life. Trust me, go and get one at your earliest convenience. With (mostly) clear eyes and a full stomach we were ready to take the party on the road.
Devan and Joshua have a great time together and know not to take each other too seriously. They were always laughing and that is such a great thing to capture. Documenting moments is my number one goal as a wedding photojournalist so they were a blast to spend an evening with. I don’t know what Josh was saying but it was clearly working.
They’re getting married at Garden of the Gods Club which has an amazing backdrop so we decided to take this opportunity to make a few photos in an urban setting. LoHi, RiNo and LoDo are all great neighborhoods to photograph an engagement session because there is just so much to choose from. LoHi offers amazing views, RiNo is a great place to search for color and light and LoDo is one of the best places in the city to eat, drink and shoot at iconic locations. Even after dark I love shooting in LoDo because the city lights up and provides a great opportunity for creativity.
I’m obviously biased since I live in LoDo but downtown Denver engagement sessions provide you the opportunity to capture the skyline, iconic locations, fun backdrops and a great place to have a drink to complete the experience.
If this night was any indication, these two are going to throw one heck of a party and I can’t wait to photograph every moment of the day in just a few weeks.
