Downtown Denver engagement | Amanda & Cuyler

When I met up with Amanda and Cuyler at Union Station for their downtown Denver engagement session we had such an amazing time, we spent almost two hours at Terminal Bar drinking. Time flies by when there are thirty amazing Colorado craft beers on tap, outstanding atmosphere and three funny people trying to one up each other. Amanda is a nurse and Cuyler works for the Copper Mountain Fire Department so they do a lot for other people and rightfully so I wanted them to have a great time and not rush straight into shooting. As a couple, they have a blast traveling and skiing together which makes sense because Cuyler proposed on the top of the mountain. Despite not being natives, they have definitely made Colorado their Home.

The best part about doing a downtown Denver engagement session is that the area provides a variety of locations and settings all in close proximity. The great hall inside Union Station always has amazing light beaming into the windows in the afternoons. The surrounding areas provide colored walls and murals which is something that they were really hoping to find. I like to challenge myself so even though I have shot in the area before, I try not to make a picture that I’ve made before. Taking some risk often leads to unique images and that’s what I’m all about. Even as the sun was fading I knew I could break out a light and hide it in a small space to make the skyline photos at Auraria Campus. Anyone can shoot at golden hour but I love shooting during blue hour when the ambient light begins to match the lights from the buildings downtown.

None of that would be possible if my clients didn’t trust me and I’m thankful for couples like Amanda and Cuyler because they let me do my thing which makes this whole process a blast. I know one thing is for sure, that’s not the last beers that I’ve had with them. I’m looking forward to their wedding at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

  • Spring Engagement in Downtown Denver | Katie & Joel

When I met Katie and Joel last fall we ended up cracking open one of my favorite beers, Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout, out of my cellar which is always a good sign. We naturally met up at a brewery to catch up before starting their spring engagement in downtown Denver. They’re new to Denver and open to whatever so I suggested that we have a pint at Ratio Brewing in RiNo since the area has lots of colorful backdrops for the start of the day. After walking a few blocks around the neighborhood we drove over to my place so they could change and I opened up a couple more tasty beers for all of us to share. I’ve lived in LoDo for the past six years which…

  • Jefferson Park Engagement | Angie & Chris

Chris and I had mutual friends in high school and we’re sure we had a beverage or two together at some point so it made sense to start their Jefferson Park engagement at a brewery. Angie and Chris live in the up and coming neighborhood which features a couple of great restaurants as well as Briar Common Brewery, where we started. We chatted over a couple of hoppy beers outside in the sunlight and it was so good that we almost ordered a second round. They live just down the street so we walked over to pick up their cattle dog mix, Ella. She tried her best to contain her excitement in front of the camera but couldn’t help it. Part of me thinks she knew exactly how…
