Downtown Denver engagement | Amanda & Cuyler

When I met up with Amanda and Cuyler at Union Station for their downtown Denver engagement session we had such an amazing time, we spent almost two hours at Terminal Bar drinking. Time flies by when there are thirty amazing Colorado craft beers on tap, outstanding atmosphere and three funny people trying to one up each other. Amanda is a nurse and Cuyler works for the Copper Mountain Fire Department so they do a lot for other people and rightfully so I wanted them to have a great time and not rush straight into shooting. As a couple, they have a blast traveling and skiing together which makes sense because Cuyler proposed on the top of the mountain. Despite not being natives, they have definitely made Colorado their Home.

The best part about doing a downtown Denver engagement session is that the area provides a variety of locations and settings all in close proximity. The great hall inside Union Station always has amazing light beaming into the windows in the afternoons. The surrounding areas provide colored walls and murals which is something that they were really hoping to find. I like to challenge myself so even though I have shot in the area before, I try not to make a picture that I’ve made before. Taking some risk often leads to unique images and that’s what I’m all about. Even as the sun was fading I knew I could break out a light and hide it in a small space to make the skyline photos at Auraria Campus. Anyone can shoot at golden hour but I love shooting during blue hour when the ambient light begins to match the lights from the buildings downtown.

None of that would be possible if my clients didn’t trust me and I’m thankful for couples like Amanda and Cuyler because they let me do my thing which makes this whole process a blast. I know one thing is for sure, that’s not the last beers that I’ve had with them. I’m looking forward to their wedding at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

  • Downtown Denver engagement | Devan & Joshua

I met up with Devan and Joshua at Avanti to start their downtown Denver engagement session but before we did anything we had a drink because, why not? The view is obviously amazing but there is a great vibe going on and food is mouth watering. At Devan’s suggestion we had an arepa from Quiero Arepas that potentially changed my life. Trust me, go and get one at your earliest convenience. With (mostly) clear eyes and a full stomach we were ready to take the party on the road. Devan and Joshua have a great time together and know not to take each other too seriously. They were always laughing and that is such a great thing to capture. Documenting moments is my number one…

  • Iconic Engagement in Denver | Mesha & Joe

My dad is a talker. So naturally when he was in the hospital for minor spine surgery a couple months ago he told the nurses and doctors all about his family. Mesha, one of his nurses, happened to be engaged and reached out to me about her and Joe’s wedding this fall. I’m grateful for the care he had while he was there and thrilled that I’ll be able to return the favor for their wedding this year. For their engagement session we met up at Improper City, just north of downtown, to start the afternoon with a drink. Mesha and Joe have a natural, easy going chemistry that I vibe with really well. We were having such a good time that we almost didn’t want…
