It was nothing but smooth sailing for Liz and Sean’s Rembrandt Yard wedding in Boulder last weekend. Everyone was on time, the light was a spectacle, moments were plentiful and most importantly their loved shined through. I spent several hours with Liz, her mother and soon to be in-laws as they got ready at Rembrandt yard. While they shared hilarious stories together and allowed the moms to do what mothers do best, I was around to document it all. Dan was with Sean and his father down the street at the St. Julien where I can promise the beer was cold and the conversation surrounded Ireland’s chances in the ongoing European Soccer Championships.
They opted to forgo a first look and instead wait to see each other until they walked down the aisle and I’m sure glad that they did. There is something really special about watching (and photographing) two people see each other for the first time on one of the most important days of their lives in front of everyone they love. The energy in the room was electric. Liz’s friend Rachel performed one of the most genuine and touching ceremonies that I’ve ever witnessed. “I’ve known Liz for [many] years,” she said, “and I’ve known Sean since yesterday.” The laughter from that ice breaker definitely eased any remaining nerves in the room.
After the ceremony we made a quick drive up the road to Centennial Trailhead for a few portraits. Liz and Sean were game to climb the 190 paces up the trail to a spot that I scouted the day before and thankfully the light didn’t disappoint. They were so into each other that I’m pretty sure they forgot we were there which made for several lasting images.
They were anxious to get the party started so we went back to the gallery for a fun night of dinner, drinks and so much dancing. Who knew that Middleburg College alumni could bring the fire on the dance floor?
It was a blast to hear their families stories, witness true matrimony and party the night away with everyone. I can’t wait to photograph another Rembrandt Yard wedding.
