It’s not every day that you get to witness two of your close friends getting married to each other. It’s even more rare to be asked to help document their History Colorado Center wedding along with a team of award-winning photographers and videographers. Oh, and did I mention that the happy couple are also photographers themselves? No pressure.

Seriously, this might be the most documented wedding of all time. Double Pulitzer Prize winning Craig Walker and his wife Jamie shot Dan and Anya getting ready. They were joined by last year’s large market newspaper photographer of the year, RJ Sangosti, to all do the Catholic ceremony. Meanwhile, recent Edward R. Murrow award winning videographer Mahala Gaylord captained the video team that included fellow Denver Post staffers AAron Ontiveroz, Lindsay Pierce Martin and Eric Lutzens. They were all over the place throughout the whole day.

I was tasked at photographing everything after the ceremony which included family photos, the wedding party venturing on foot to the Denver Post, Cap City Tavern (A&D’s favorite spot) and eventually the reception at History Colorado Center.

That morning part of me was a little nervous. I’ve done countless weddings but this was clearly something special and I wanted to do a great job for them both. Similar to any of my athletic endeavors, once I’m in the moment and start shooting everything is business as usual. It was a pleasure to see them both so happy. Even on their wedding day, with so much going on, their personalities shined through. Dan is one of the hardest working people that I know so it wasn’t a surprise to see him answer the phone to try and remedy issues with the live stream of the ceremony shortly after saying “I do.”

Anya was her classic relaxed self, being patient with Dan, even stopping to adjust her shoe in what ended up being my favorite frame from the day because it’s such an accurate representation of them as a couple.

When they return from their epic European adventure I’m sure you can find us all in our usual spot, table 23 at Cap City Tavern, sharing stories about the day and more. I’m honored that I was able to be part of it all, among my peers and friends both in front of and behind the camera. Congratulations you two!
