When I first found out that I was going to be traveling to Iowa to photograph Shannon and David’s Field of Dreams wedding alongside Travis I had a feeling that it was going to be amazing and I’m glad that feeling rang true. Pro/college sports and weddings eat up the majority of my schedule so this was the perfect amalgamation of the two.
Everything about Iowa is exactly what you think it will be like. The people are friendly, the light is amazing and there is corn everywhere. That combined for a great day for making photos.
I documented David and the guys getting ready at Hotel Julien before we made the short walk over to the St. Raphael’s Cathedral for their Catholic ceremony. We made a few photos in downtown Dubuque before making the drive to Dryersville and the Field of Dreams movie site. When we arrived the light was golden and matched the color of the cornfields that surround the outfield and the whole site. Before long the sun set and the gorgeous pink and purple hues blanketed the sky above the field. I focused on making as many scene setting photos as possible and I’m glad that I did because it’s not often that you get the chance to shoot such a unique backdrop.
What you don’t see is the tent in shallow left field where they held their reception. Each of Shannon sister and father told great stories and David’s brothers sang quite the tune to celebrate their new sister-in-law before the party got started.
Just before we packed up the car and left I was able to make my favorite image of the day as they walked on the field under the lights. Much of the movie is set and since we shot so many photos in great Iowa light this image stands out among the rest.
I really enjoyed the opportunity to photograph their Field of Dreams wedding.
