The weather and fall color in the mountains is often unpredictable so it wasn’t surprising that we were rained out of our first attempt for their session. Despite more finicky weather on our second attempt, in true Colorado fashion, we experienced nearly all four seasons in one day for Holly and Hayden’s fall mountain engagement photos. Shooting during the fall colors season in the Colorado high country is my favorite so I’m glad that everything worked out for us. I had been paying attention to the fall foliage map since the color changed earlier this year because the mountains experienced a drought last winter.
We met up at Outer Range Brewing for a beer before venturing over to a nearby aspen grove that was in peak color. Another brief rain shower didn’t stop these two from embracing the elements and enjoying all of the golden aspen trees around them. The
Our next stop took us to Officers Gulch and just as we arrived the sun came out. Holly quickly changed into a bold red dress while I raced to find a couple locations that would take advantage of the sunlight. We had absolutely gorgeous light for the rest of the evening. Holly and Hayden are definitely my kind of people. They had so much fun throughout the session and were excited to adventure with me in search of that perfect light. We found several pockets of sunlight peeking through the trees around the area.
The orange, yellow and red hues were prominent not only around the gulch but also surrounding Dillon Reservoir. We ended the session during perfect golden hour on top of the reservoir and were treated to a fantastic sunset. I’m looking forward to their summer brewery wedding in Denver next June but for now enjoy their gorgeous fall mountain engagement photos.
