Gross Reservoir offers a different backdrop from most of what you'll find in Boulder County. The reservoir, operated by Denver Water, is open to hiking, fishing, camping and non-motorized boating so it's a quiet getaway about a 30 minute drive from downtown Boulder.
From the parking lot near the Northeast of the reservoir it's about a 10-15 minute hike down to the water along a well marked trail. Evenings in the middle of the week are the best time to visit.
Parking can be limited, especially on the weekends. Photography permits are required in Boulder County.
