When Ioanna reached out to me about her and Alex’s wedding she mentioned that one of her close friends passed my name along to her. The thing was, I didn’t actually photograph Vanna’s wedding. After connecting with me, Wanna eventually decided to hire someone else but encouraged Ioanna to contact me when she was looking for a photographer for her wedding. When Ioanna told me this story, it really stuck with me that I could have such a strong impact on someone who didn’t actually hire me. I was incredibly touched by this gesture. Over the course of the year we connected several times about the wedding and with each detail revealed my excitement for the day grew.
I’ve done tons of Greek weddings over the years and the thing that never changes is the energy surrounding the day. When I arrived at Ioanna’s parents’ home everyone was buzzing around and getting things in order. Ioanna was calm but she couldn’t hide the joy on her face. Considering that she had so many close friends and family members at the house, it’s easy to see why. Michael met up with Alex and the guys at the Halcyon Hotel in Cherry Creek. I wasn’t there to witness it in person but the images suggest that Ioanna and Alex shared the same energy throughout the morning.
Their wedding ceremony took place at Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Cathedral, one of the most gorgeous churches in all of Colorado. I’ve done weddings there many times and will never get tired of the stunning visuals in the space. Afterwards we headed downtown to the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts for one of the most colorful Greek wedding receptions that I’ve seen. Savanna and the team at Seawell did a tremendous job transforming the space. Not only was the lighting gorgeous but they even put DJ David from TH Entertainment in a suspended platform high above the dance floor. It was a complete show stopper.
The energy in the room remained high all night long thanks to a spectacular atmosphere, and I’m sure some Ouzo. This was a wedding that I will not soon forget. Congratulations Ioanna and Alex, I’m so glad that we were able to document such a special day for you both!
